  3. The blossom is from what we as kids called a horse-chestnut tree. For reasons only known to pre-adolescent boys we would collect bags full of these nuts. The proper name for this large deciduous tree is Aesculus hippocastanum. But in Ukranie, where the flower is the symbol of the city of Kiev, capital of Ukraine, it is the horse chestnut blossom.
